We were lucky enough to have a chat with the gorgeous Kimberley from My Little Light Photography and though her beautiful images speak for themselves, we understand the importance of truly getting to know your wedding photographer!
Not only is Kimberley a hugely talented photographer she is also mum to two crazy, energetic and beautiful boys. When she isn’t capturing your most memorable moments you’ll find her spending most of her day in the kitchen supplying them with an endless amount of snacks (Mum life, am I right!?). With her little sidekicks in tow, she spends her spare time making pillow forts, building lego creations and exploring new locations around Adelaide for her clients.
This year Kimberley and her husband are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary! So if anything, she’s a good luck charm to have on your wedding day!
What made you become a photographer?
Photography has followed me throughout my life, during my travels and life’s adventures I always had a camera in my hand. But it wasn’t until I became a mother that my passion for capturing the everyday really started to have meaning. I wasn’t just taking a record of where I had been, I was documenting life. Capturing their story and my images had impact, not just for me but for my boys as well. It gave them a sense of belonging and brought their childhood to life.
Holding a camera, taking photos, looking for the light, it felt natural … like I was coming home.
What specifically, do you enjoy about photographing weddings?
I didn’t find weddings, weddings found me and it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with everything about them.
The opportunity to loose myself in the day and to tell the couples story from beginning to end is simply magic. But my absolute favourite part of a wedding is the stories people tell, during their vows and the speeches, I love hearing how their love story began and the memories that their loved ones hold dear.
If you could use 5 words to describe your photographic style what would they be?
Timeless, Authentic, Natural, Relaxed and Unique.
Some advice for couples who are looking to choose their wedding photographer?
Choose a photographer whose style you love. Your images will be yours for life, so you want to love how they are edited and presented. Take the time to look through their entire portfolio, not just the weddings. Ask to see a full wedding gallery, or two, you will soon see if the quality of their work is consistent across all genres.
Any tips for couples on their wedding day?
Relax and go with the flow. Things might not always go to plan and that’s ok, trust that your vendors and your support team will take care of it so you don’t have to worry!
Your favourite memory from a wedding you have photographed?
My first wedding of this season, my first after 5 months (due to Covid), the couple decided to have a first look prior to their ceremony. It was just the two of them, taking a moment before the whirlwind began to be together. Moments like this are hard to come by on a wedding day and it was just the sweetest way to kick things off.
Isn’t Kimberley just a darling?!
